Thong Koon comes from a legacy of ancestors whose main job was logging and hauling the product from agriculture. Her first child was a male elephant. Tragically, her son was sold to a Japanese man for 1,800,000 baht. He went through “the crush” (aka training) before being transported to Japan by plane. It was unknown what the boy would be used for but when her son was taken, Thong Koon screamed from a broken heart and expressed depression and sadness after that.
After 3 years passed, Thong Koon was pregnant again. She had a long and painful birth that resulted in a miscarriage due to lack of veterinary care for elephants in Laos. She is now in good hands being cared for at Laos Elephant Sanctuary.
